Especially with our dogs . . it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. thanks for the kind words , it is difficult situation , earlier in the week i had been busy so , it was food water pat pat , meds and i was on the go well the day before yaesterday i let Nigel out and he shot outa that barn like a canon , and i was so happy he ran circles around me , he was so happy to see me , i had hope that maybe he wasent that bad off after all. Yesterday however he was so sore , i had to give him a sedative along with the pain meds so he would chill out and rest , he is a puppy at heart and wants to do all the things that puppies do ! but his body is like an old old dog .  have to say , that this sistuation with Nigel has really opened my eyes , and i have learned a great deal from him , you hear about all the things that can go wrong , and you dive in anyway , but untill you actualy have a puppy that is crippled up , or hurting you really havent a clue , what a heartace it is , and untill you have a pet whom you love dearly that is so young and sweet , and you are forced to do right by them and let them go , you really havent a clue how difficult it is , and i try to tell myself that i can do it , but deep down i wonder how i will? and i play it out in my mind everyday , and and i wonder how i will let him go , and i understand that this something breeders face , and dog owners face , and i onley hold onto this that i am glad that this is so hard and i am glad that this breaks my heart , and the day that i ever have to put a dog down , without any sorrow will be a day i hope i never see. | Mel, You and Nigel will meet in a better place where pain and illness is not an issue, its the hardest but nicest thing you can do for the guy, I've had to do this in the past and will never get over it but always never regretted it, if his last vision is of you his loving owner you know he will go with total peace in his heart..god bless to you both. | | his back is MUCH better now that we are managing the pain , however he is still very roachy. his biggest issue is the front elbow , some days are better than others i really have to watch his activity . so far we are managing the pain with meds and rest .and he apears to be doing pretty good , his buddy Stanley (my basset) is a very bad influence so i have had to separate then for "rest day" he leads Nigel all over the place chasing kitties etc . he mostly just lays on the front deck guarding.  | so sorry to see your boy lie this mel as said befor by others hope your breeder is helping you. when you say he has had x-rays did you have any done on his hips???????? as to me looks like a hip problem just my thoughts . PERFECTION REQUIRES A BIT OF MADNESS | |||

Yes he had everything ex-rayed and his hips are perfect! its his elbow that is the major issue( among other things ) Elbow dysplasia . that is the worst of it . the vets prognoses was that he would be completely lame by the age of 2 , he is 11 months now , and i am just doing all i can to keep him comfy , so far its not so bad he is on pain meds , and i do let him run and play followed by a day or two of rest . He will eventually have to be euthanized . As for the breeders i have had no contact with them since the prognoses was clear they had emailed me for the name of my Vet and his contact information I provided that to them , and that was the last i have heard from them . the whole thing has been a nightmare really for Nigel. and me.
