Does anyone know where I can find a vet in GA that is familiar with Neapolitans?
I am having issues with my "little" guy - he is slightly stiff in his back legs and is hesitant to sit and stand up. I have read some other posts on here where people are having similar issues as myself and it seems like the best thing to do is get xrays done. I have a regular vet that I have been taking him to since I got him (I got him at 7 weeks old and he is now 17 months old) but I want to be sure that whomever I get his xrays with really knows the larger breeds so that I can be certain we didnt miss anything, or say it is something it isnt.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I honestly thought that it was him being a clumsy puppy and then up until about 2 months ago I started to wonder if it was something more. I started saving up my money from then on (the economy hit my family pretty hard) to get his xrays done and proceed with trying to figure out what the problem was. I had him on a supplement called K-9 advantage up until about 8 or 9 months ago and wasnt able to order anymore because of the cost. I dont know if there was ester C in it or not, I have never heard of that before?

What does your vet think?

Supplements are not the end all cure all, way too many variables to go half cocked.
A good vet with history of your pup can go a long way.
X-Ray's of your dogs hips might show something, but your local vet might be the first place I'd start.

My vet just recommends getting his xrays done because it could be a number of things.

What questions did he ask?
Have you changed his food?
Have you had him outside more than usual in the rainy cold weather here as of late?
Has he played hard or turned unusually on it?
Have you tried baby asprin? Does it help?
have you tried mild heat on it?
Does it feel like you have a knot in there?
How long has he been stiff? Is it all the time? After a lack of use? Or more use?
If the vet didn't ask a ton of questions about it then you might just want to find a new vet first!

"What questions did she ask?" - My vet asked whether or not he is favoring any particular leg, if he was crying out, if he flinched when I pressed on any particular parts of his legs.
"Have you changed his food?" - He has had a pretty consistent diet of raw meat (chicken, turkey) and dry natural food that I purchase from a local natural dog food store called Red Bandana. Lately (as in the past 2 weeks or so) he has started eating a lot less, partly because the vet told me he needed to loose about 10-15lbs (he is 17 months old and 130lbs) and then on top of that he doesnt eat all of his food, he normally leaves half a chicken back or eats all his chicken backs and leaves all his dry food. He has also started laying down to eat.
"Have you had him outside more than usual in the rainy cold weather here as of late?" - I have actually limited his activities outside lately in fear that he has a hip problem, and until I can figure out what the problem is I didnt want to make it any worse.
"Has he played hard or turned unusually on it?" - Again -- I have limited his activities outdoors. He used to us a pull that I put the tree and he had a weight ball that he would push around the yard. I stopped letting him do that sort of stuff so that he doesnt cause anymore problems. It was hard keeping him from playing hard when he was younger, and he still has his moments of energy bursts, I tried my best to keep him from doing too much as a puppy since I have experience with Mastiffs and thier hip issues.
"Have you tried baby asprin? Does it help?" - I have never tried asprin. He injured his wrist about a month ago and the vet put him on some medicine to ease the pain until it healed. That is when I really started to think that he had a problem with pain because not only did his wrist do better, but I could tell that his movements everywhere (especially sitting and standing) were much smoother and there wasnt quite the hesitation.
"Have you tried mild heat on it?" - As in a heating pad?
"Does it feel like you have a knot in there?" - Not that I can tell.
"How long has he been stiff? Is it all the time? After a lack of use? Or more use?" - I have reallynoticed it over the past few months I would say. It is most of the time and very obvious in the mornings and when he has been resting for a while.
"If the vet didn't ask a ton of questions about it then you might just want to find a new vet first!" - That is my main concern which is why I wanted to see if anyone knew a vet that specialized in Neapolitans or large breeds. I love my vet and so does Gojira (my Neapolitan) which is a big deal because he is very very fearful of people (lack of knowledge on my end lead me to choose a not-so-good breeder) so I take him to her to keep him from stressing too much. I just want someone that knows the breed or large breeds so that if it is bad it will be spotted, and if it is ok then I wont spend a ton of time (and money!) not to mention putting him through all that.

Hi Amy,
Try the Ester C, and I'll show you why in a sec. You can get it at WalMart or any GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Just get the people kind. Click This Link The link will tell you HOW to administer it too.
If it is cheaper you can get Injectable C from Tractor Supply or most feed stores.

I'm pm'ing you with more....
