 | Oh, like what symptoms she has? Poe has just been peeing ALL the time (like every 45 minutes to an hour!) and so I asked the vet to do a urine screen to make sure it wasn't a problem. . . They said she had a bacterial infection but then the whole herpes thing came up and I was wondering if that's a possibility also. I guess it doesn't sound as serious as it did when Joe (correct?) said that his dog couldn't have puppies because of the infection, but I'm still curious as to how common that type of infection is for dogs.  | Anna...Yep, Sheena got a nip and tuck  The surgery was very simple and took no time...I think it's a great idea that you are keeping the area clean...I wouldn't worry too much about doing any kind of surgery just yet...Poe is still growing and if the issue happened to be similar to Sheena's as she grows the skin may change...Also someone mentioned to me that after a heat, since the vulva swells, it will pop out more and the extra skin sometimes is no longer an issue (Sheena was spayed even before I got her so I haven't tried that theory). | | I definitely think I will wait on broaching the surgery, if for no other reason than I've already given my vet many reasons to look at me sideways (asking about cropping ONLY 1" off Poe's tail, wanting a tattoo instead of a microchip, not looking to spay her, the list goes on and on!. . . she's not the most open minded of vets. LOL) Thanks for the suggestion though, if it persists I will keep it in mind. I've heard that UTI's are often fixed once a female sexually matures because their whole reproductive tract physically changes. Here's to hoping that this is just a one time ordeal! | | Poe is back on antibiotics, the infection came back not 5 days after she finished her last 2 week run. . . Let me take a minute to get some opinions here (since I really have yet to find a vet I like, let alone love in Kansas): How do you all feel about Clavamox for non respiratory infections? When I used to do vet tech-ish stuff we used the clavamox for kennel cough/pneumonia and Baytril for most other things since it's stronger. My vet however, in her infinite scheme to irritate me put Poe back on a 250mg dose of clavamox saying that she just preferred it. Here are my issues: 1. she was on that dose for 2 weeks twice a day and it didn't do the job 2. It's my understanding that antibiotics lose their effectiveness if you repeat the same dose again 3. 250mg is an alright dose for dogs UP to 40lbs (Poe is 47 right now and will likely be over 50 in the second week of this treatment) I've heard some good things about "fishflex" recently, has anyone used it?  | Clavamox is a great broad spectrum antibiotic, its used for many different types of issues and normally will take care of most common infections. But animals are the same as humans, just because its a common antibiotic doesn't mean that it works great on everyone. You may want to ask for another type of antibiotic to see if it works better. If you would like I can look in my Med's book at home tonite and get some different names of med's for you to give to your dr? Just an FYI most Dr's will push what they have in the office because it makes life a bit simpler for everyone, so you may have to push a bit of something else. jessica stites Click This Link | |||
