I'm sure alot of the people on this site have a good system for securing funds from their buyers but if this helps just one person than thats good.
Basicly the scammer contacts a breeder and says they want to buy a dog. They jump through your hoops and then offer to pay via certified check wich they insist you clear before ya do anything. They send more than the dogs purchase prise and ask that you take your fee and pay their vet or something like shipping company I gather from what I read online the check gets reversed or it comes back NSF. I'm not totally sure how it works. Just giving a heads up to everyone. Thanks Cathy
Heres a question for all you breeders. What is the safest way to complete transactions were you aren't going to be meeting the buyer in person? And what do you think of paypal?

Someone tried this on me a few years ago but i refused...
What happens is they ask to pay you more so that you can pay for the shipping direct out of the money... You pay the cheque into your bank usually it clears in 3-5 days so the money shows as being in your account... Then they ask you to ship the pup and pay the shipping when they collect usually they make the arrangements and you pay cheque to the pet carrier when they arrive to collect... When they get the pup they reverse the cheque which in some countries they can do upto 21 days after it has gone into your account. They get a free pup and you even pay for the shipping...
The other scam is that they say they have changed their minds and could they have their cheque refunded, you send them a cheque back, which they draw cash on, then reverse their own cheque... so you loose the money...

I have heard of the certified check scam. I had a friend who had a certified check be fake after she had done shipped the dog. So we will do certified checks but until it clears, the pup does not ship out. Always beware of the scammers that says I am sending more than asked for cash it and send me the extra back. I have seen that many times. Paypal is good, it also protects the buyer. Western Union and Money Grams are good too. But anytime you have checks envolved always wait until they clear. This happened to me once, several years ago. I alway thought that cashier checks and money orders were the same as cash. Since I do not like carrying a of of cash on me, due to the fact that I was once brutally attacked and hospitalized over the cash in my purse, I always allowed people the option of cash or CC/MO's even on pick up. Then I was personally handed a fake cashier check when a girl picked up her pup. Not only that, after discovering that the CC was fake, we found that she had also given a fake name and address. Long story, short... I did my own investigating, since the police were useless, located the idiot, had to pick her out of a line up, etc..., she went to jail and I got my money about year later. I originally just wanted my pup back, but after discovering that, despite the girl's deception, my pup was, in fact, very well taken care of, so I took the money. Case closed, but what a pain in the butt. SHELLY IRONHIDE MASTIFFS Click This Link

Shelly I am so sorry to hear you were attacked. That changes who you are forever! I know what ya mean about the cops, theft just doesn't make the cut with them for investigation. Even after you do the legwork for them and spoon feed them a case your lucky to get anything done.
My e-mail is half ful of suposedly unclaimed bank accounts and foriegn business proposals.
It used to be enough to simply shake hands and the deal would be iron clad.
So...What is the safest way to recieve money besides cash?

I have recieved money three times now via bank transfer and have sent money twice via western union. Though not all countries have western union and some bank transfers are less than western union for fees. Moneygram is not as widely available as Western Union (we do not have it here) and i think charges more than WU and Banks Good Luck

I may have already been a little touched before that happened. hehe The guy put my teeth through my lip, blacked my eye and cracked my skull and still still chased him several miles in my car before I realized I was hurt. That SOB had my purse! lol It did teach me not to carry large sums of cash though.
Anyway, Pay Pal is another good source to send or receive money.
He must have been strong as hell LOL Never knew women carried cash on them LOL And the men paid for everything or else it went on plastic. LOL I thought purses were just for make up, hair brushes, womens things, a change of clothes, half a box of tissues, some weird looking things and reciepts from 30 years ago LMFAO
Ooops i forgot the kitchen sink and a spare tyre too. Good Luck
