I am a Mastiff fancier, although my Mastiffs were all Olde English Mastiffs, I am ready to cross into Neo territory! Love the mahogany and tawny colors. Prefer a male, but he will NOT be bred. He would be a member of the family, with a soft bed and run of the house. Will never spend a night outside. I do have a small child (4), so he should be trustworthy with children (although I never leave my dog and child alone together, just for the fact of the sheer size can knock her down). My daughter has done wonderfully respecting our dog's space and knows not to infere with food or toys. The Mastiff that will join us will be an Only Dog. My current wonderful companion dog is living out his days in comfort, but soon I must make the decision that no dog lover wants to make. I am in north Florida but willing to drive or fly for the right dog. HapkidoRN
I hope someone can point you in the right direction-Neos, in my opinion, are by far, the most amazing pets, especially if you keep them indoors and as one of the family...
Good luck! Michele

Thank you so kindly! Tell me, what is about the Neo that you love? I frankly did not think of getting a Neo...was looking for a Dogue de Bordeaux and some of the rescues had Neos posted. The more I saw them, the more I found them to be simply awesome, drool and all! So far, my search has only turned up Neos that have been deemed not good with kids or simply too far out of my price range. (I realize a good Neo costs $$, I mean I don't expect to get one for a couple hundred dollars unless it's a rescue). Thanks for welcoming me.
Much luck in your search! There is 1 breeder 30 mintues east of Pensacola, he has some good quality dogs. I will be at a Pensacola show around March 1, you are welcome to come hang out and play with the dogs......... 8) .
It would be easier for me to list the things about the Neo I don't love, lol...
This is my experience only, and I'm very new to this site, even though I was owned by a Neo for 8 years (I'm actually learning more about the breed and it's standards from being here than ever before) so I'm speaking purely from a hands on living with the breed point of view...
Neapolitan Mastiffs have a very interesting personality... I used to say my Gwen was a person, trapped in a big, drooling, beautiful body...
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I did tonight with Nigel, and used to remark on it all the time with Gwen: They have "people" eyes... And when they are listening to you, they raise their eyebrows... haha
I think I told you in your intro thread my knowledge about rescue Neos... I completely understand why they mostly will not adopt to a home with small children, but I do believe there are exceptions (especially if you are used to mastiffs in general)... To be honest, if I thought I could take in fosters at the moment, having two smaller children, I would... With the economy, we financially can only afford one Neo at the moment, and I'm not certain yet if any surprises will pop up with Nigel healthwise.... Besides, I'd probably want to keep them all... I think you have to actually live with a Neo to fully understand the lure to the breed... They are not just a pet, the truly become a member of the family... I'm sure there are some anomolies... I also was shocked when my Gwen died from old age at 10... And heartbroken, I wasn't ready to let her go... Now I know that some only live to 4, 5, 6 or 7... Some 8 years of age tops... Doesn't seem fair we only get so few years with them... I believe we will see them on the other side though...
Knowing and loving the breed as I do, I would gladly pay top dollar for a well bred Neo... But, I've always been a rescuer (of dogs, cats and even people, LOL) so for me, it is more rewarding to rescue them and in return I have been blessed with this amazing, majestic breed... Maybe someday I will be blessed with a small puppy rescue, LOL...
A couple of things to note, and so far I've seen none of this displayed with Nigel, but Gwen was extremely "sketchy", for lack of a better term... If I dropped a piece of paper in front of her and she wasn't looking, she'd jump... When I was pregnant with my second child, she became very neurotic... But I came to understand her, and we worked through it...
One AWESOME thing about the Neo is that they are a GUARDIAN, not ATTACK dog... But your neighbor or friendly solicitor does not know this! I loved the ferocious bark that would emit from Gwen when the doorbell rang, or ANYTHING moved around the perimeter of our home, human or other... I realized she was getting old when she barked less frequently, but she had perfect hearing until 8 or 9... Unfortunately, Nigel has not barked once, except for at my feline friends, LOL... I'll have to train him...
I could go on and on, but I'll save some room for others
I just love Neapolitan Mastiffs... Michele

I would imagine some are... Guess I shouldn't have written an absolute for the breed...
I have not encountered an attack Neo, nor do I think I'd want to...
I was told by a mastiff rescue lady out here that they are still training mastiffs as fighting dogs in our area, since they are more powerful than pits...
Makes me pretty sick... It's one thing to attack an aggressor, it's a whole other thing to be the aggressor...
Although, I've mostly seen in my experience, a dog is going to be what is put into the dog (of course, I'm sure there are anomalies)... My Rottie was the gentlest soul on the planet... My sister's chihuahua was a total aggressive meanie who would bite you if you walked past her room-in my home...

Wow, is this breeder under the Witness Protection Program, or something? I've looked all over the area, and haven't come up with anyone local. Would you give a name?
