Ok, so I keep hearing great things about feeding raw and from pictures (like those of Nikki's Juni) I can see the results but I have some questions. I am no where near ready to make the switch from dog food to raw (I am a HORRIBLE decision maker and have to go over every single aspect before settling) but I am trying to learn some more. My concerns at present are: bones and bacteria. I was raised being told and hearing never to allow a dog to get ahold of chicken bones because they can choke on them. But when feeding raw you are feeding bones and all, correct? Is this a problem? What about bacteria in and on raw meat? Are there any cons to feeding raw?
Whatever you heard forget it...... Get raw food I dont even wash any of it... RAWRAWRAW If bones were a problem we would not feed.

If you like picking up dog shit there can be a con, because when you feed RAW, you almost dont have to pick up dog shit.

It is Cooked Chicken bones that are bad, They are brittle. Raw Bones are soft. It is safe, and you will see a huge difference in coat, eyes, stools, so on and so on. Starrsdcct Neapolitans UGM Admin
When chicken bones cook they loose the moisture content and end up splitting and splintering- thus causing problems. Raw bones don't do this. They crunch right up and are actually a sort of natural toothbrush for the teeth. You would be amazed at the whiteness and cleanliness of the teeth on a raw fed dog.
Bacteria is not a problem for a HEALTHY dog. If you are worried- get blood work done. Just a CBC will tell you a ton about your dogs over all condition. Salmonella and E-Coli are found naturally in our environment. Dogs bury foods and dig them up for later. Wolves kill and eat sick and diseased wild animals. None of this bacteria affects and normal functioning canine digestive system. If you are worried about YOUR environment and the germs then use a spray bottle with bleach and wipe up the floor after them- or feed the dog outside.
There are a ton of sources for info inline. Check out the many Yahoo groups. _________________________ Nikki Agrippina Mastino
UNLESS you cook them in a pressure cooker . That will turn any bones soft . Back during World War II most dog magazines told you to throw all your leftover & bones into a pressure cooker . This was too make leftover stew dog food because of rationing of food during the war years . John Ketchum
