Oh... and we all had our pups for about 3 weeks to a month before they got really sick. My brother's pup always had a really minor cough. Nothing I would have ever worried about. She would only cough once in a while... no more so than any dog.

Excuse me I meant to say bronchial wash, this is where they place a scope down the trachea, and do lung washes. Just swabbing the back of the throat would be useless, as it is a deeper problem.

ACV isn't a bad idea actually Carrie, because it would disinfect as well...
There is always bacteria in the throat anyway so a regular dose of ACV would ceratinly keep some of the bad stuff under control!

Trouble is these things soon escalate...
My son has had pnemonia on 3 seperate occassions, and looking back the first symptoms were a mild, dry cough every time, which started at night when he went to bed. We thought at first it was the dust from the house (as we were doing work on it) then thought perhaps it was mild asthma, it went on for about 3 or 4 weeks before it got bad and he complained it hurt when he breathed in... and of course a dog can't complain...

Karen, primary cilliary dyskenesia in humans is almost impossible to nail down, it would be that much harder in dogs. I think it would be better look at obscure but more treatable conditions. PCD is hard to diagnose secondary to the normal post imflammatory changes that occur in the ciliary cells due to infection or inflammation. Its like self prophecy.

Hello All,
I am Cammie's Mom and Nisse's Aunt!
I must Thank all of you for your concerns and advice with our Puppy Problem.
As you can imagine it is very frustrating and disheartening.
Cammie is on her 4th week of Clavamox and finished her Panacur on Tuesday.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe her congested cough has nothing to do with her Pneumonia.
She still has it, just not as bad as it was.
It sounds like she's trying to hauck a loogie( sorry for the grossness) and can't get it up.
She has become more puppy-like after 2 weeks of the anitibiotics which made us feel better.
However she still continues to cough, just not as often.
Teri and I have tried to come up with everything possible that could b wrong.
Today she called and was telling me about this post and how everyone was coming back with all these possiblities.
Then she said something that caught my atttention. Acid Reflux!!
2 of my daughters had acid reflux as infants 1 almost died from aspirating on it.
They both were on Previcid until they grew out of it
The Acid Reflux would not explain the pneumonia however she could have 2 different things going on.
I will be calling Cammie Vet Monday to pitch this idea to her.
Here's a pic to go with the post! This was one of her first morning here

This is now with my other baby Jack

Have the best pup!
